Project Global Officers is an a national initiative to encourage ROTC students across the country to study critical languages and develop regional expertise and intercultural skills. With funding from the National Security Education Program and Defense Language National Security Education Office and administration from the Institute of International Education, the University of Kansas is one of twenty-five universities in the U.S. that can award Project GO (Global Officers) scholarships to study a critical language on the KU campus or on KU summer study abroad programs. Intensive summer language study gives ROTC students the chance to add a critical language to their current undergraduate major.  This preparation helps ROTC students stand out among their peers and gain valuable experience in learning to interact with people from around the world in another language.  These rich multi-cultural experiences are available to eligible* undergraduate ROTC students.

Intensive language study is available on campus as well as abroad. In the ideal academic program, the ROTC student would use the first summer of Project GO funding to start the study of a language in the US, and a second summer of funding from Project GO to study the language intensively abroad.  During the academic year between those summers, students can work with a conversation partner on a weekly basis to maintain their skills.

KU offers introductory-level instruction in Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Russian on campus and study abroad for Arabic at Al-Akhawayn University in Ifrane, Morocco and Hindi at Landour Language School, India.
