Study Abroad - India
Where can I find out more information about the Summer Program in India?
Information about the summer program can be found on the Center for Global and International Studies Website and on the Office of Study Abroad's website.
You will need to enroll in placeholder (FRSP) hours until KU receives the final scores. The instructions for how to do this enrollment process are located in your Office of Study Abroad account. If you have any holds on your account, you will not be able to enroll.
There is an administrative lag-time between the time you turn things into the office and when they are posted. This could take up to a week. If it has been more than one week and you items are not showing up, please contact the office to find out the status.
Yes, your study abroad coordinator will work with you to secure the visa. Project GO will cover this expense.
You will have a placement test administered by the University before enrolling in classes, so do not buy books until after you have been advised. You will also be post-tested a requirement of the Program on the ILR scale. This exam is separate from your final exam.
Your tuition, fees, books and some activities are covered by this funding. You will want extra money for incidentals.
Yes. The culture class is included in this program for students who are not absolute beginners. You will receive three credits in the Indian cultural component of this trip.
The program dates will be determined later in the year.
The books being used are published by the Landour Language School. There is no need to buy books until you arrive at the school.
Yes. An online orientation with all people going on the trip will take place roughly one month before departure.
If you are KU student, the courses will automatically be transferred to your transcript. If you are from another school, the grades will first be applied as KU credits and then sent to your home school. You must tell the OSA where to send your transcript after they receive it.
The transcript will normally be released a month after the program ends.
All grades and credits will show up as KU credits. It is up to you to see if your home school will accept these credits.
Yes. You will work with the travel agency chosen by the Office of Study Abroad to join the group flight to India. In accepting Project GO funding it is important that you comply with the group flight regulations. Project GO travel funding has significant restrictions and not all flights comply with federal regulations of the Fly America Act. For Summer 2017, there will be additional rules about combining personal travel with travel for studying abroad.
With the exception of the group excursions, you must notify the program leader if you want to "check out" for the weekend. This is for your own personal safety.
If you wish to travel to another country from your host country, you must have prior written consent from your host university AND notify the Office of Study Abroad. Travel to countries on the U.S. watch list is not allowed.
