Where can I find out more information about the Summer Program in Morocco?
June 2 - July 29, 2018
You will need to enroll in placeholder (FRSP) hours until KU receives the transcript from AUI. The instructions for how to do this enrollment process are located in your Office of Study Abroad account. If you have any holds on your account, you will not be able to enroll.
There is an administrative lag-time between the time you turn things into the office and when they are posted. This could take up to a week. If it has been more than one week and you items are not showing up, please contact the office to find out the status.
You will need to complete this along with the paper application in your OSA account. When you enroll online, it will ask you for a deposit. Please IGNORE this request since OSA will be making payments to AUI on your behalf. You may or may not receive an acceptance letter from AUI. No matter what, your acceptance in this program through KU ensures your acceptance into AUI.
This application is required by all students of AUI in order to get your information into their system. Essays uploaded for Project GO and OSA applications can be recycled.
No, visas are not required for Americans traveling to Morocco.
You will have a placement test administered by the University before enrolling in classes, so do not buy books until after you have been advised. You will also be post-tested a requirement of the Program on the ILR scale. This exam is separate from your final exam.
Your tuition, fees, books and some activities are covered by this funding. There will also be money added onto your AUI meal card that pays for three meals per day at the school canteen. If you use the meal card to buy snacks, there will not be enough money to cover all of the meals.
The card will be loaded with dirhams twice, once after you arrive and then again approximately two weeks after you arrive. Project GO also supplements a small amount of money to offset the food costs for our students. This money will be directly deposited into the bank account associated with your KU account. It is up to you to add this money to your meal card.
No. Project GO money only covers language courses. You can, however, pay for this class out of pocket. It is not advised for Project GO to take this class though since the language classes are very intensive.
Dates will be announced toward the end of the year.
The books being used are:
Beginning levels: Alif Baa and Al-Kitaab fii Tacallum al-cArabiyya
Intermediate levels: Al-Kitaab fii Tacallum al-cArabiyya
Advanced levels: Al-Kitaab fii Tacallum al-cArabiyya
You can buy books there and do not need to purchase these before your departure.
Yes. For students who are not at KU, an online pre-departure orientation will be held for all students at the same time roughly one month before departure. back to top
If you are KU student, the courses and grades will automatically be transferred to your transcript. If you are from another school, the grades will first be applied as KU credits and then sent to your home school. You must tell the OSA where to send your transcript after we receive it.
The transcript will normally be released two to four months after the program ends. There is no way to rush this, but anticipated grades can be requested if necessary for another application.
All grades and credits from AUI will transfer to your KU transcript. It is up to you to check with your home school to see how or if credits will transfer.
Yes. You will work with the travel agency chosen by the Office of Study Abroad to join the group flight to Morocco. In accepting Project GO funding it is important that you comply with the group flight regulations. Project GO travel funding has significant restrictions and not all flights comply with federal regulations of the Fly America Act. For Summer 2017, there will be additional rules about combining personal travel with travel for studying abroad.
With the exception of the group excursions, you must notify AUI if you want to "check out" for the weekend. This is for your own personal safety.
If you wish to travel to another country from your host country, you must have prior written consent from your host university AND notify the Office of Study Abroad. Travel to countries on the U.S. watch list is not allowed.
